June and Ralph Cabin 746 will do pre cruise tour to Machu Pichu
and probable to do Iguacu Falls. We are flying from NZ so not sure when we would arrive. Maybe a day or two before. What is Paraguay plan. Life is short so like to do it all.

Just outside of Iguacu Falls is the town of Puerto Iguacu where three countries all come together- Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. As many of us have not been to Paraguay, it seems like a short drive to pick up another country. Of course, a drive to Asuncion would be more of a major undertaking, one that would require a Visa card.

Thanks for starting this roll call, Marc. My last group cruise was DOLPHIN in 2013, so it will be fun to be back cruising with Ngaire & Ken and a KLT group again.

My favorite cruise buddy (I'll let her comment to this thread) and I have booked the entire circumnavigation of South America in 2018!! Another long cruise for us.

Have been to Machu Picchu and highly recommend it. We plan to visit Iguazu Falls but will probably book through Ker & Downey. I had also looked into visiting Paraguay from there as it is so close. Not sure our plans on that, but we have plenty of time.

We Hope to do Iguazu Falls as well.
We Previously went to Machu Picchu after the wonderful Papeete to Lima cruise with Ngaire and Ken in 2015. We took the Regent tour, and it was great.
We are in 773

As Beth indicates, I will be on this one as a segment in the full circumnavigation, and am certainly looking forward to it. It will be great to be back with the group.

I also recommend Machu Picchu. Susan Walsh had worked with Ker & Downey to put together our trip, and I do recommend you look into that approach. She also did the same for our side trip to Angkor Wat from our Pacific Rim cruise earlier this year. We paid $500 per person less than the ship's tour (the ship was Crystal Serenity), and had what appears to be a much better experience. We had one guide for two of us, rather than one for 20+, and he knew the ins and outs of how to dodge crowds and extreme heat, and yet see the complex in a way that was just spectacular. Same thing with Machu Picchu (though for that it wasn't really from a cruise, though we went there right after a Silver Galapagos cruise).

Anyway, I look forward to seeing everyone.

Frank and JoAnn - H gty Machu Picchu pre
Jack and Laura - H gty Machu Picchu (Ithink)

Is everyone booking the Regent pre Machu Picchu? Or does anyone know if Ngaire will put together a private one? The Regent standard looks good to us, well except for the 5am wake up calls --- hate those! sad

JoAnn, the Regent excursion only has about two hours in Machu Picchu. Ngaire is arranging a private tour for her Galapagos trip this November so we are going to probably do our own group based on her lessons learned.

ok, thanks. So it sounds like some of us might have to do the Regent tour in any case, do I have that right? Or are you organizing a tour and if so can you send me some info?

On another thread, Ngaire talked about Machu Picchu; I am just waiting; I am NOT organizing anything (except maybe a three corners tour).

Too early to set up Machu Picchu. You can add the Regent trip to your booking to ensure you are booked. No extra deposit and you can cancel later

I am definitely going to wait until I return from my trip in November to make plans as there are some new properties I want to check out first. Definitely before anyone has to make plane reservations.

The trip I am doing in November is six nights and will probably do the same thing again. One night Lima, two nights in the Sacred Valley, two nights at Machu Picchu, one night Cusco. So of course my option will be more expensive. If you just want to see Machu Picchu quick then Regent could be a better choice.

Marc, somehow I missed getting on this roll call. Delighted to know so many past favorite cruise friends will be on! Some of whom I've not seen in a long time! Beth and Crystal, I believe it was way back when you did some "discovery cruise"? A really long one!

Now, winding up a wonderful fall trip on Nantucket with long time gal pals. We rented a nice house and just had so much fun. What a lovely island this is! Far different from ports we visit. But a looong drive from home! Only good thing, no airport security and all that stuff.

Olivia, it's been 8 years since the Discovery Collection. Way too long. Of course it's over a year until this cruise. Too far off to get excited quite yet but it will be great to be back on a Regent ship again.

This was announced on the January update and Regent has been closed and will reopen on Tuesday.

Sara will be on top of this and getting all the bookings adjusted it may take a couple of days but we will get it done for everyone with KLT on that sailing.

Machu Picchu.

REGENT TOUR
If you JUST want to see Machu Picchu you might should consider the Regent tour.

One night Lima
Two nights in Cuzco.
The only concern is altitude is the highest in Cuzco where you stay two nights. An altitude sickness risk. But if you are worried you can get medication for that and also bail on the tour on arrival in Cuzco to take it easy on the first day.

On the second day you train in to Machu Picchu in the morning and train back to Cuzco that night. So just an afternoon at Machu Picchu. That is often enough time though to see the Citadel if you do not plan on any long hikes.

Priced well. For H - F cabins $2299 per person standard hotels and $3499 per person deluxe hotels.
RSSC - Three Nights.
http://www.rssc.com/cruises/MAR180123/land-hotel/pre/day-1/LLIML67/default.aspx#Other

KLT TOUR
My private tour be much longer 7 nights and then of course more expensive. I will be using top hotels so about the same per diem as the deluxe Regent tour.

One night Lima on arrival at the airport. Most planes arrive at night and with massive traffic I think it makes sense to stay at the airport as we leave early the next morning. If you want to see Lima come in earlier and stay at the Mira Flores Park Hotel and we will get a transfer for you to meet the group at the airport.

One night Lima Airport Hotel
Two nights sacred Valley, Inkaterra hotel (nice place to visit and the lower alititude to adjust)
One night at Machu Picchu, Sanctuary Lodge (two entrances to Machu Picchu)
Two nights in Cuzco
One night Lima. I want to be sure we do not miss the ship so want an overnight in Lima.
Seven nights.

OPTIONS
If you want Regent we need to book it as it always sells out. Contact me or your KLT agent to add that to your booking.

If you want the KLT tour reconfirm for me by email before I start the process so I know the numbers I need to work with.

Ngaire, do Platinums get 10% and Titaniums get 25% off the Regent tour cost?

Yes Marc, 10% for Platinum and 25% for Titanium. Makes a big difference on these land programs.

done Machu Picchu twice. One of the best places we have ever been. I do suggest to everyone to take time to just sit and look out over the site for awhile. There is a small covered place with bench right near the entrance. The change in light and clouds make this a special place. We were there when the Inca trail was closed so it was a little more quite. Have seen it in sun and mist and rain. Each was wonderful. The market when you get off the train or before you get back on has some interesting things but you have to dig for them among the same old things. The whole trip was wonderful. Loved Cusco. Great sights. . There will be many people selling paintings on the street. Take time to look. Inexpensive (need to bargin). Great art(no) but after I got them home and framed they were a great reminder of the trip. They really looked so much better at home. Thought about the falls but thinking we may stay on to Rio if the price is right. This segment is pretty well sold out but the before and after seem pretty well wide open and would rather be on a ship than home in the cold.

Good info Pammy, thanks. I plan to do what you suggested and just sit in the covered area the whole time, I am not interested in hiking around.....we are only there a couple of hours anyway, long long day for a short visit, not happy about three 5am wake up calls in a row...haha 5am is still the middle of the night as far as I am concerned Thanks too for the tip on the paintings, will look for one to add to our travel wall.

Hi everyone. Please add Mona and Tom to the roll call. We are in cabin 875. We are not planning any pre or post cruise tours at this time due to mobility and altitude issues. But we probably will goto Lima a couple of days early. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Ida and I booked this unique South America voyage this week, suite 735.

We look forward to finally meeting some fellow long time LCTr's (since 2004) who we have yet to sail with. Olivia bet Ida will have you up dancing a few times :).

We decided not to take the Deluxe Regent Machu Picchu (MP) land trip, instead (for less $$, private guided)we are using Kuoda Travel (only peru owned Trvl agency based in Cusco and US) for our 4 nite/5 day MP Adventure tour. We will enjoy two full days in Machu Picchu (incl stay o/n in Sanctuary lodge). We take the Hiram Bingham train for our journey to Machu Picchu on the first day. Then, we have a private guide for half the day in/around MP. For our second day at the Top of the World, Machu Pichhu, we are permitted for a 3 hr private guided hike to Huayna Picchu by scaling the iconic sugarloaf peak. Our reward--a uniquely different view of MP.

Thanks to Ngaire's earlier MP tour posts we are following her advice, stay in Lima hotel our first nite and a Lima hotel (Hilton) the nite before we board the Mariner.

I hope some of you happened to see the special Bill Weir "Wonder List" show on CNN Sunday night, or can watch it On Demand. All about Machu Picchu. Haha, made me appreciate that Pam told us about that nice little bench near the entry. It was truly beautiful filming of the views and narration of the history. Also, Bill climbed an adjacent peak, perhaps the one Wes and Ida are planning. He is a young and fit 50 this year, so all climbers will enjoy that hike! I for one, enjoyed it for the vicarious adventure it allowed me. What views there are up there!

Holy smokes Wes! You guys be careful! Just one misstep on that trail and it's sayonara! I did the Sun Gate hike back in the 80's when I was MUCH younger - that was enough excitement for me!

Olivia - thanks for the tip on the Bill Weir show. I enjoyed that! I would love to go back to Macchu Picchu someday - it is a magical place.

Thanks JoAnn for the kudos (premature now tho), and Cindy for the be safe well wishes.

Ida finally took time to watch the "stairs of death" video last nite. Immediately, she told me you are going to change our Huanya Picchu hike, no way am I (and you) doing the Huayna Picchu hike.

She emphasized loudly to me, "We want to be healthy before boarding the Mariner in Lima Wes"; so (after coordinating with Kuoda Travel) now we are doing the Sun Gate hike on day 4 of our Machu Picchu adventure. Pls see:

http://theonlyperuguide.com/peru-guide/machu-picchu/additional-hikes/sun-gate-inti-punku/

Look forward to sailing for the first time with Incas/longtime KLTrs that we have known only digitally for over ten+ years on this forum.

Thanks to Ngaire for accepting my Incas posts tho we are not Incas--and thanks to Marc for including us in the roll call.

You will enjoy the Sun Gate hike. It was plenty challenging for me back in the day (I certainly couldn't do it now!). Have fun!
