I'm in the market for some new luggage. Does anyone have a bag they love? The one I'm replacing is 25" so not really looking for a carry-on. Also wonder if anyone has any experience with the newer light-weight hard-sided bags. Thanks in advance!

Kathy we have Briggs & Riley we have had our luggage for about ten years and it is still look good. They offer a lifetime guarantee but we have never had to use it. They now offer a hard-side option too. Good Luck

Kathy, Jerry loves his hard-sided luggage while I find the lack of an outside pocket really annoying. So very much a matter of personal style I think. I like my Bric's My Life bags. ---------------- Helen

Kathy, we buy our larger luggage pieces at Costco and have had great luck with both Kirkland brand and Ricardo of Beverly Hills. On long cruises, we travel with something similar to a 25" soft-sided piece (don't know the size) and a large soft-sided rolling duffle bag. If I were buying a new piece, I'd definitely want the spinner wheels. I just looked for you and Costco has Samsonite ultralite spinner sets as well as Ricardo Beverly Hills hardsided spinner sets. With the way checked bags are treated these days at the airport, I save the investment priced luggage for carryons because no matter how good the luggage, rough handling is going to tear it up.

We also have Briggs and Riley for about 10 years and you know how much travel we do.
Few tiny things gone wrong they fix it immediately. We are fortunate to have a dealer close to our old office just drop it off. If they cannot fix something you get a new bag FOR LIFE. No matter how the damage was caused. They are well designed and light. Would never buy anything else now.
I agree with Donna. The four spinner wheels are a MUST. So much easier to roll than pull and for carry on luggage the spinners can go down those narrow airplane aisles with ease.

Thanks so much for all the replies. I, too, am a big fan of Briggs and Riley and the spinner wheels. Donna, your reply made me laugh because it is so accurate. Somehow, somewhere between my house and the ship (we used a luggage shipping service) my bag was totally destroyed. My feeling is that it suffered a very bad accident somewhere in the port. It reminds me of those old luggage commercials where the bag ends up on the tarmac. Mine looks like it was dropped from a tall building and then run over by a train. I will see if it can be repaired, but in the meantime I need something for my Explorer cruise, so will check out Costco.

So funny just buying a new piece. Should have read this thread first.. Did buy one from e-bags & it is a spinner. Cheap, as I agree if it is going baggage keep your fingers crossed. Pat Bittle

I'm also in the market for a large piece of luggage. Unlike some others, IMO this is the best choice of where to put "investment dollars" since it puts the test on the quality of the luggage. I'm not in control of it when it leaves my hands. I've been a Hartmann fan forever. I have had a huge garment-bag piece for about 20 years, and it's still in good working order, it just doesn't spin like the new stuff, and still doesn't in the newest model.
I never heard of Briggs-Riley, but have read the consumer reports reviews of big pieces, and it relegates other brands to a lower level than in the past, including Hartmann and Samsonite. But it costs the same as about one day on the ship! Better than Hartmann, that costs a day and a half! With Ngaire and Carolyn's rec's I'm about convinced, because they have 10 year experience.

I've also used Briggs and Riley bags for years. I was thinking about going back to Tumi, but what tipped the scales was the fact that the the bottom of the B&R bags are flat and give you a much better surface to pack on. I just ordered the hard-sided medium spinner from the B&R website for $314 plus no tax and free shipping. This is half the price of their newest expandable model, so I feel like I got a great deal. Good luck!
