Looking at the email again from Regent, it only specifies Puerto Qutezal. We are there from 7am to 3pm. We chose the Macadamia Nut farm excurstion, but then decided we'd rather do Ancient Antigua and city tour, which we are waitlisted for. So am wondering.....maybe Ngaire you would have some input on this....is the medication reallly necessary? Are there other areas on this trip that might be a concern? Is anyone else planning on getting the medication and taking it? Mosquitos love me, but if I am only outside during the day, use a good repellant and don't open the balcony door or go out on the balcony the night before, and when we leave is that enough?

Ken and I will not be taking anything.
We no longer take anything going to South Africa have not for years. Mosquitoes love me too but never had a bite in South Africa at the time of year we go so I just stopped taking Malerone. Very expensive pills.

When on safari in Kenya we took NO meds - two MDs with us did not take meds either did our guide. We decided NOT to take malaria meds!
And we lived to live many more years and counting!

so if not required only recommended, probably ok to not take it? Just take safe precautions while in an effected area? It sure does seem a lot to go thru for an 8 hour stay in an effected areal.

JoAnn -- the mosquitos that give you malaria are only out at dusk. The ship will probably be gone by then--if not, just don't go to the pool bar  . On my doctor's recommendation, I've never taken the malaria medicine and like Ted, have lived to tell the tale.

haha thanks Peggy. I'm sure I could avoid the pool bar at dusk for a night or two. I am thinking the same way, seems like a lot of medicine for an 8 hour stay and I am sure we will be at tea/trivia by the time we leave so won't need the pool bar!

We're also not taking malaria meds for Puerto Quetzal. The ship leaves the port well before dusk so the mosquitoes shouldn't be a problem. We also ignored the Regent warning about malaria in Vanuatu in December and had no problems.

Yikes, another cancellation? Is there a health advisory or a predicted tsunami to hit San Francisco in September that we're not aware of?

People did move and most to the October 31, 2015 AFRICA cruise. It was a nice offer and not surprised a few moved but not that many still a nice group on CANAL and the pin is going to be great. We are working on it now.

CANALer's....just looked at our docs and it looks like there are 2 "Formall" nights (although it just has an F, is it still formal optional?)
Tom is asking me if men are planning to bring a tux, dark suits, sport coats etc.?

Frank and Jack are bringing jackets, Frank will probably bring a dress shirt or two and tie, but not bringing a suit or tux. He likes to wear shirt and tie for Captain's night and Seven Seas night usually. I just found a couple of new tops, so am bringing those, will be nice to have some new things.
So excited you and Al are back on this Kathy, can't wiat to see you.

We have 4 guest passes for our San Jose family (Gina, Josh, and our 2 oldest grandkids...Nick (9) and Kasey(almost 7) in San Francisco so I hope they get to meet some of you. They're so excited to be coming on board. Hopefully a nice day on the pool deck.

Greetings!
The first formal night also happens to be my birthday, so we're making the most of the occasion. I'll have a gown and Keith is bringing his white tux jacket and bow tie. Regarding the rest of the cruise, he's sticking to his blue blazer and maybe a couple of ties. Being a scientist, he is rarely required to dress business style professional.
Can't wait to finally relax and hang out with y'all! Hope we share some common excursions.
