Kristin, so glad to hear you will be with us! You write the some of the BEST trip reports I have read, so you can take over that job from the ROAR I people! Yes, Ngaire, Ken and Co. really are the pro's. We are in good hands.

I share Anne's optimism that waitlists clear every cruise or trip. This time, however, Ngaire has a back-up, Singita! What a wonderful property! I'm just trying something different this time.

Well thank you, Olivia, about the trip reports! I am afraid I am becoming more lazy about writing with each trip we take, however! Looking forward to meeting a fellow SS cruiser & sharing stories!

Thanks, Sue :) I sure hope we are able to pull this all together. It's been a dream of ours for awhile, but Greg and I never knew the other wanted to do something like this until we read about the first ROAR! It was kind of like that song "If you like Pina Coladas, getting caught in the rain" - we just never knew each other wanted to do a safari, even though we have known each other 19 years.

Singita sounds incredible. I would be all over that if we don't clear the Leopard Hills waitlist!!!

Ngaire,
Not sure if missed a post but will throw this out anyways..What is the hotel ideas(s) for Cape Town.
If we are doing CT first than Hermanus then camps should we plan on booking CT on our own..or will there also be some group rates going on for that?

I am going to check out all the midrange hotels on the waterfront when I am there in September. Give my analysis, the rack rates for them all and then you can vote. Or I must just say "this is it" when I get back. Depending on how strongly I feel about the choices.

Cape Grace and Table Bay are about $800 a night and that is really too high. I think they are overpriced.

Radisson is about $400 for an ocean view room, and very nice. Great breakfast. At this point my choice. This is what I a using for Tusk.
Right on the water, and very new. Still typcial hotel room but I liked them as well as Cape Grace. Shuttle to the waterfront - less than 5 minutes you can walk it is so close really.

There is the Victoria and Albert, the Commodore (not seen yet) right IN the waterfront and the Southern Sun about a 5 minute shuttle away. I have been to the Southern Sun and the Victoria and Albert but I want to do with a more critical eye.

The quote we get will be "approximate" so many aspects of a safari like this that cannot be confirmed 2 years out. We will price in probably the Radisson so depending on our choices it could change.

If we are only staying one night...what about the option of Bishop's Court again...wasn't the rate cheaper?

Andi - I'm pretty sure Claudia is talking about the group that is opting for Cape Town, Hermanus and then the 2 game parks. Ngaire is working on the hotels for that group.

Bishop's Court is probably too small (only 5 rooms) to hold them. It's lovely, but it's a long way to and from the waterfront.

If you and Doug have decided to do Hermanus + the 2 game parks, it is of course your choice where you stay if you arrive on Sept. 17. Bishop's Court is lovely!

Cheers, Anne

Anne, I wasn't sure if those of us who opted for the Hermanus and 2 game parks had the option of staying whereever we wanted for the one night or if Ngaire was arranging that. We loved Bishop's Court..we didn't see much of you there..you were in bed when we finally arrived and you were leaving on your township tour as we were still having breakfast. It is a lovely little place.

As you pointed out, it is a drive from the waterfront and I didn't know if Ngaire wanted the one nighters to congregate at one place or to just meet at the airport.

Andi, I think the Hermanus transfer will be by bus or van, instead of a flight. It isn't very far, is it?

It is really best if everyone stays the night before the Hermanus transfer at the main hotel. We will be taking van transfers to Birkenhouse House (1 1/2 hours) and if we are spread all over town that could be complicated.

If there are enough of you at Bishops Court for a full van transfer 10 people then that may work. But just two or four would not be workable. If you try to get to the hotel in time and are delayed you hold everyone up. The hotel we take this time is going to be closer in price to Bishops Court anyway.

We are doing 6 nights game park and more charter flights this time hence more expensive. We need to cut back in Cape Town to help offset the game park costs.

IF you come in earlier than that and want to stay at Bishops Court then that is fine.

Groups are great fun, but sometimes with too many people doing too many different things it gets pretty complicated.

Just returned from 4 days away. Read the messages but didn't have time to post. All I can say is this trip is traveling "faster than a speeding bullet."

Michele, looking forward to seeing you and Don again. Olivia, it will be fun to spend more than a brunch together. And, to everyone else, can't wait to meet you or see you again, whichever is the case.

Kristin, Alan and I will have fun being "newbies" with you and Greg.

I just love having something to look forward to!

Donna, glad there are newbies other than us! Look forward to meeting you and Alan.

I know, this whole thing took off SO quickly - if we can hardly keep up with it, imagine how Ngaire is doing!

We stayed at the "Nellie" a few years back - "Grand Old Lady" type - beautiful grounds - close to the base of Table Mountain - somewhat remote from other activities, but we did walk through the park area into down town - the hotel restaurant had a full orchestra for dancing - definitely sedate! We booked through PC hotels program and were upgraded to a magnificent suite. Can't recall the rates, but we were the beneficiaries of a very favorable exchange rate at the time. Have noticed that the rand is becoming more reasonable.

I have been to the Mount Nelson. ABout the same rate as Cape Grace and not near the Waterfront. The rooms are nice but nothing super special for a regular room. Stately hotel, lots of class but I seldom use it because of the location.
