How many of the ROAR2ers are REALLY MISSING AFRICA?
I am. I'm putting together a blurb book, and that is causing me to miss it more. Not just seeing the animals in their natural habitat, seeing the beauty of the Southern Cape and the Bush, experiencing gourmet foods in unique environments, and luxury accomodations second to none, the fun, but also the PEOPLE we met - the natives & our fellow ROARers. We're looking forward to seeing some ROARers next month here in NY, which will bring even more memoried flooding back.
I feel I have to go back. BUT There are other places on my list that I have not seen. I need to clone myself!

Gee Gil....Me too.I am about 1/3 through choosing which photos to use in the blurb book. All told I took around 2000 pics and the editing is tiring work and like most photographers you think each one is a masterpiece. I had Steve(our son) scan through them and all I heard was "loose it" or "erase it" or "you forgot the rule of 1/3rds". I was happy to hear "thats a keeper" from time to time.
But like you Gil and I imagine all of us who were lucky enough to participate in ROAR2, its the PEOPLE we shared our African adventure with.
Since we could be seing a bit of snow today(but probably not) reviewing the memories are warming ,to say the least.
Say hello to the "Yellow Crested Green Throated Giggler"from the rare black and white "Zebra Bird"...there is a story here about this illusive bird at Madikwee Hills watering hole...It stayed in position long enough for me to shoot it on full zoom...and it stayed there and stayed there for such a long time....it sure did...it was the covering of the light for night illumination of the watering hole....Did I mention I'm Blonde?

what is the 1/3 rule?? Have been working on a CD of my pictures. My daughter said 7 to 8 minutes but I couldn't get is down under 15. I had to have every giraffe picture. Want to go back but this time would only do the camp. I don't think I could ever get enough of the animals.

Other than Paris and Istanbul, it's the only place we've gone back to twice...and we're planning a third trip back. It is a special place. The way Ngaire plans the trip and the folks we experienced it with, certainly made it even more special.

Missing Africa? Oh yea. The contrast of East and South Africa added to the interest.
Amarula hot chocolate? Gary would be in proverbial hog heaven.

It gets in your blood. There is something so special when you are in the bush and away from the reality of our every day world. The animals are so incredible. The more I go the more I want to go. Like a box of chocolates you never know what you are going to get on a game drive.
I was envious of Pam, Jim, Fred and Pat seeing the buffalo form a circle to defend their young from the hyenas.
No matter how many times you go there is always something remarkable and new to see.
2011 - a return to Africa - game parks only
Except for those who want to come in early for more Birkenhead House and La Residence I would be up for a few days of that.

It's funny because when we got home we were thinking that it was great and it would be nice to go back, but it wasn't so strong. But you're right. It's gotten into my blood. What's interesting is Tahiti didn't do it for me, but Africa did.
