Andi, Mark and I aren't going to Lion Sands.
We do one night Cape Town, 2 nights Birkenhead, four nights Cape Town, then three at Madiweke and three at Leopard Hills.
I'm getting confuzzled!!

That's what I meant when I said there was lots of mixing and matching. Only Ngaire's spread sheet says it all, and that will change. Much different from ROAR 1, because everyone has different preferences. Some didn't want to do Capetown again for 4 days, some wanted Birkenhouse, some not. Others wanted more safari's but in different areas/countries. It just isn't simple, and when Ngaire reads this, she will roll her eyes that we are even trying to figure it out!

My understanding is that those on the same "rotation" all get together for a boma dinner when some of us are at Mateya and some are at Madikwe Hills.
Very complicated for Ngaire, for sure!

Well, we have to entertain ourselves while we wait for TUSK updates. Once their trip reports start to age a little bit, we'll go back to planning our closer-at-hand trips.

Ngaire certainly has my admiration! I'm out of town and can't remember our exact plans. I "think" we are Option 1 with the 4 Capetown days, Birkenhead and our camps are Mateyea and Lion Sands. I'll just go wherever Ngaire sends me because I know it will be great!

Option 1: CPT 9/13, Birkenhead House: 9/14 & 9/15 Room 2, CPT 9/16 - 9/19. Madikwe Hills and Leopard Hills 9/20 -9/25 (6 nights)

Kristin & Greg (azgkrudi) - we are Option 4 - Cape Town four nights, then game camps the following 6 nights: Madikwe Hills 3 nights, Leopard Hills 3 nights (or vice-versa).
As others have said, that may change in between now and 2 years from now! ;) We'll go with the flow (and the pros)!

Ah...Here's ours exactly, Option 3, Capetown 9/17, Birkenhead House 9/18-9/19, Mateya and Lion Sands 9/20-26 (7 nights...4 at Lion Sands).

Let me shed a little light on this subject.
The options relate more to what is happening in Cape Town and Birkenhead House and NOT to the game parks at all. Different arrangments, longer in Cape Town, Birkenhead House different dates all make the difference on the options.
All people just doing one night Cape Town in conjunction with Birkenhead House are option 3 BUT they can all be at different game camps. So Option 3 could be Mateya and Lions Sands OR Madikwe Hills and Leopard Hills or Madikwe Hills and Kings Camp.
Everyone is going to spend 6 nights on safari in two different camps. So dont worry too much it will all work I promise.

Well, I was right, we've already revised our itinerary! We couldn't resist adding the Birkenhead House after seeing/hearing about it from the TUSKers. Now we are Option 2A, CPT Sept. 14 & 15; Birkenhead Sept. 16 & 17; back to CPT Sept. 18 & 19; then game parks the last 6 nights.
I think we will be VERY glad we will be in CPT the first two nights to get over our jet lag so we can be fully recovered in time for the Birkenhead House!!!

I was amazed on ROAR 1 how little jet lag I had when we got to Capetown. One thing that may have helped: we had a long layover in Zurich (12 hours), so we got a day room at an airport hotel. I took a shower, slept about 6 hours, walked around a little and went back to the airport for the flight to JNB (which was an overnight flight). We slept again on the way to JNB, transferred and flew to Capetown and arrived feeling great. The Europe to South Africa flight is fairly easy because you don't change more than one or two time zones. It's the flight from the US to Europe that's the jet lag flight.

Agreed Peggy. We stopped in Amsterdam for 2 days and that allowed us time to adjust. By the time we got to Capetown, we were fine. I thimk it is because we travel during the day and it is a normal day (8am to 9:30 pm) and included to time zone change.

Joanna- Be sure to pack Tony's elephant boxer shorts (that was an elephant wasn't it?)!! Birkenhead may never be the same after this crew gets finished. By the way, I didn't see any pictures of the disco? :3smile:

I will remind him Mitch - for some reason he seems self conscious wearing them - I tell him to get over his "shortcomings" - we'll find a place for Bert and the other disco queens to dance! Maybe a table??? Oh poor BH :ch: :ch: :ch: :ch:

Same here Claudia - the pictures did it for us and Ngaire's advice not to miss it - it will be an exciting trip with many great memory opportunities - 2 yrs of Tony asking mega pickle questions may "do me in" though - I told him last night just to order some of Ken's from Roar 2- he was insulted!!

Thanks Andrea! I still cannot tape a TV show much less talk about MP's - Kristen we are at BH same time as you with Marcie and Tom and others - we took room #7 (twin beds) decided to give up coziness for money saving middle category room - the only negative is I will have to get out of my bed to walk to Tony's so I can pinch his nose when snoring - no discussion of this fact in Sept 2008 -

A video camera works, too. I had the perfect shot of Mark asleep on a cruiseship balcony, snoring away. His lips were even flapping.
Hmm...I don't have a video camera anymore. I may need to go look.
