I got my business class award tickets outbound held to Copenhagen for Fjords. Just wanted those wanting to get award seats to know that June 23rd hit TODAY.

Ngaire:

I hope you booked your air for 22 June arriving on the 23rd. If you booked air on the 23rd, we will meet you in the first port.

Done this too many times to make that mistake Marc. I am tempting fate though. DFW to ZURICH to CPH. Sone arrive in Copenhagen until 2.00 pm. Ship sails at 5.00 pm. I would tell all clients that is TOO close. We do it all the time and ONE OF THESE days we will miss a ship.

Cross your fingers for no major flight delays or we will see you in two days!

I really need to come in JUST in time for cruises and get home as fast as I can. I dont like being out of the office more than necessary and Ken does have limited days so one more work day he can get in makes a difference. He has gone almost straight from the airport to work before.

I finally was able to confirm Virgin Airlines upper class to London round trip for my parents for Fjords using ff miles. They will need to add on inexpensive British air from LHR to Copenhagen. Not a bad routing for 100,000 miles each considering Continental was charging 250,000 each for business/first to Copenhagen  They offer only one flight from the US each day to Copenhagen so will not offer reward travel in the standard category.
Cheers, Pam

Pam,
You should be able to get them all the way to Copenhagen and back again on this f.f. ticket. It may involve a partner of theirs.
We're flying business class using Delta miles and it gets us from LAX to Copenhagen with an open jaw flying home from Rome (side trip) back to LAX.

Marcie,
Actually you are correct that we should be able to get them a partner flight. Unfortunately, the only flights from Heathrow to Copenhagen are through non-partner airlines. In any case, I am still working on the possibility of a Northwest flight from Boston to Amsterdam connecting to a KLM Cityhopper flight to Copenhagen. No Northwest FF tickets have been released to Continental Airlines yet and since we have the majority of our miles on that airline, we will go with what they offer. I am saving our AmEx points for other travel.
Cheers, Pam

As I hope you all noticed, the return flights are now in the system if you plan on flying out of Copenhagen on the day the cruise ends (7 July). We were able to get business class tickets on United via London both ways, having had the outbound IAD-LHR flight on hold with United for the last 2 weeks (they'll do that for their own flights/airplanes, but they can't hold awards on Star Alliance partners. I was confident that getting the LHR-CPH leg added on the outbound wouldn't be a problem when I was able to book the retunr flights and it wasn't.

I have no idea. I have never flown in or out of Copenhagen. I am hoping to switch to a noon flight Saturday, too, if it opens up. I will be interested in hearing what you learn.

We flew out of Copenhagen after our Baltic cruise (BLISS)in June. The airport is easy to navigate and a 12:00 noon flight would be fine.
Cheers, Pam

thanks Pam, we called to book it, and the 12:00 is gone, this definately falls under the "snooze you lose" category, so we are staying in Copenhagen the night of the 7th. Now, have to do the hotel. I am not a fan of post cruise stays, just seems like once that bag is in the hall with the tags on it, get me home!!

I'm all booked too. Found a great business class fare on American via LHR. My departure from CPH is 1:55 pm, so I'll have plenty of time to get to the airport.

Joanna, when we went on VOF, we had the FCO CDG ATL flight all on AF. Due to mechanical, we were late getting to Paris. We missed our flight, the last flight of the day. They put us up in a decent hotel and gave us voucher for dinner. We hopped a cab and went into Paris for evening since I had never been there. Arlene gave me the quick cook's tour of Paris....a wonderful experience. Hopefully, you will get the non-stop; but, if not, you might get to extend and get to enjoy Paris!

We still don't have very good flights home from CPH. We are having to stay until Sunday costing me anoter day of vacation time. I am going to start checking every few days to see if something opens up.

Ok, I am a total doofus when it comes to airline reservations and all that jazz, but why in heavens name is it so hard to get flights back? Is it because you are all flying using miliage or something?

Like Joanna, I was on the phone at midnight getting flights back since we're spening a week in Rome after FJORDS. Luckily, got an Alitalia non-stop from Rome to Newark then connecting on to LAX. What we must go through to get f.f. flights!

I think the return using miles was more difficult leaving Rome than it would have been leaving CPH -

Connection and airline question:

We are going to travel around Denmark for about a week, flying back from Aalborg to Copenhagen then on to the US. Best options are Delta or SAS for us. Both have discount business class.

Delta is through Atlanta, SAS is through Dulles.

Anyone have any thoughts as to which is easier - less of a hassle - going through immigration? Approximately 2 hour connecting time for both of them on the way back.

Delta would be CPH-ATL-ABQ, all on Delta; SAS would be CPH-IAD-ABQ with a SAS/UA combo.

We HATE IAD with a passion for international flights. Connections are a disaster but we are stuck on Mesa Airlines regional jets. Is this your SAS connection? If so, that probably puts you on United flights back to Albuquerque.

We have not been through Atlanta so cannot give you a relative comparison.

Best of all (again, everything is relative) is Newark but don't know if you can get the discounted business class fares on SAS using that as your international gateway.

Cheers, Anne

Leslie, the times we've been through immigration in Atlanta have been OK. I don't think there's as many international flights coming in to Atlanta versus IAD, so it's not as crowded and chaotic. One additional thing--Delta has Business Elite which is a tiny bit above normal Business Class. Don't know if they've changed the seat to lie more flat, but even if they haven't, the seats are pretty good.

Never had a problem with clearing immigration and customs in ATL. Depending on connecting flights, you may have multiple train stops and walking to get to your connecting gate. It has always been a lot better than it was that time flying back into JNB.

I think we're going to need to notify the Delta flight attendants to prepare them for this particular flight!!

There is NO Delta flight attendant's union; please don't give them any ideas.

However, sure wish I was joining you all on the flight from ATL; you will have fun. :D
