Very easy trip down - no delays or problems. So now I am onboard the Mariner. Seems like I just got off from MUSH. Not seen Gerry or Peggy yet they must be ashore checking out Sydney. Great dinner tonight the seafood trilogy - spinach salad - Prime Rib. I am ready. Guess what they had as the carving for lunch today --- leg of lamb. I am in heaven. Sun is shining but it is very windy and supposed to turn a little cooler tomorrow.
Be back to you later.

Hi Ngaire - "A little colder"? It's freezing this morning - maybe getting you ready for NZ. Glad the food is making up for the lousy weather! Have a fabulous trip. Lee

Lee, you're right--it's more than a little colder! Our lucky sunshine weather has run out I think--it's raining and 58 degrees. No matter--Sydney is still beautiful. We look across the bay to the Opera House from our balcony. We did run into Ngaire and Ken last night and had dinner with Linda and Ron. All the new embarkers on the ship are still jet lagged so it was pretty quiet on the ship last night. We took advantage of that and went to bed early since we had gotten up at 5:30 to watch the sail into Sydney Harbor. We have a trip to Koala Park planned for this afternoon, but it looks like we'll need to bring rain gear.

Hi Peggy - The ship is berthed in the best position. Great views from the rear lounge. Don't know what time you're sailing, but the sun is desperately trying to come out at the moment (3.15pm). I've been thinking of all on board and hoping the wind drops and the sun comes out. Seeing the harbour in sunlight makes such a difference. One day I'll sail out of Sydney Harbour on a Regent ship. My last and only experience was almost 40 years ago when I sailed to New Zealand. That's when Ngaire's and my paths crossed. Have a fabulous time - wish I could join you all. Lee

Sorry we missed you Sheri but it sounds like from Gerry and Peggy you had a great time.
We won trivia today -- yeah!! Just missed yesterday so nice to have a winning day.
Weather was rainy and windy in Sydney and last night was a little rough. However, now the seas are calmer and the sun is shining. Supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow in Melbourne. We are going to the the Phillips Island Penguin excursion tomorrow and my daughter is arriving tomorrow.
Tonight is formal night must go and get "cleaned up'. Having dinner with Ron and Linda tonight it is Ron's birthday.
Be back later

Great hearing from you, Ngaire! Having a wonderful time is a given for you and the others on KIWI!
Any news on who the free cruise contest winner is? I'm sure that those in the drawing are most eager to hear who the winner is. I'd be beyond eager if Alan and I were in the drawing!
Looking forward to more reports! Enjoy!

We are in Melbourne and what a glorious day. Sunny, no wind absolutely beautiful. About to go out and explore. Have not been to Melbourne for years. Great dinner last night, veal and lobster - worked for me.

Lobster works for me every time Ngaire, especially those in Maine! Can't afford to buy lobster here - so spend a fortune in airfares to eat them in the US. Something not quite right there!
Sorry we let you down with the weather in Sydney but glad Melbourne did better.

Daughter Cindy, and my grandaughter, Taylor These animals, emus, make the strangest sounds, love the curly hair. The famous Tasmanian Devil Another Tasmanian Devil Harder to post now as the sites to upload pictures are blocked on the ship. Probably too many people taking too long to upload. So we have to post pictures from on shore at an internet cafe.

Darling granddaughter & beautiful daughter! What a terrific photo of them with the kangaroo :) This is wonderful, Ngaire! Editing to add: Looks like there's a cute baby kangaroo peeking out of his mother's pouch. Love the Taz, too. I imagine your granddaughter loved all these animals!

We also had a great day in Tasmania--we went to the same wildlife park as Ngaire and enjoyed the kangaroos, koalas and tassie devils. That was our goal--to see a Tasmanian Devil in Tasmania--it was great fun. We were really impressed with Hobart--they have some wonderful shops just a few steps away from the pier. We also visited Richmond which is one of the oldest villages on the island--it was like going back in time. Now we're on our way to New Zealand. It's lunch time but I'm going to have to cut back--all my clothes are getting too tight. Sheri--we miss you too, but we're having a great time with Ngaire and all the Kiwi group that just boarded. Franz and Ann Marie who won the free cruise are really nice people so we were happy with the outcome of the drawing. We're trying to talk them into going on Panda--we'll see. Off to lunch--it's broth and tea for me today!!!

Hi everyone:
Well things are going well. We won trivia three days in a row and missed today by one answer (we had it too but changed it)
Tonight is society night so it is DOVER SOLE and RACK of LAMB night - the best night of the cruise for food in my opinion.
Really enjoyed Hobart this is a great port of call. Lots to do here and a return visit would be a good thing down the road.
WE are in the Tasman Sea right now and it is not too bad at all. Seas about 6 feet. The weather forecast does say the seas will increase but lets hope it does not increase too much.
When my daughter was born with that red hair it was quite a throw back to some distant relatives who had red hair. Fortunately she does not have the temper that is associated with red hair. Cindy and her husband Mark get off the ship in Milford to do the overland extension. We are the official baby sitters for two days. Lots of movies and room service is in order!
Be back later!

The pictures look great & Australia sounds perfect. Did anyone take the Cadbury Chocolate cruise while in Hobart? One of the great disappointments of my life that we hiked instead.
Ngaire, your dtr. looks very healthy & lovely.

Just to follow-up on Ngaire's comments about Hobart: Next year the Mariner will be there on Saturday again. What's so neat about that is that the Salamanca Market, which is right by the pier, is only there on Saturdays. We were there last year and were told that about 40,000 people go through it on a typical Saturday. All sorts of things are available. We bought hand-knit sweaters, scarves, and hats, and beautiful wooden boxes and some other wooden items made of sassafras. We spent a whole morning at the market.

Peggy, Ngaire and all, glad you enjoyed Tasmania. Sounds like an interesting stop. Hope the seas stay calmn all the way to NZ.
I agree, Cindy is a red-headed Ngaire. Very pretty too. It's great that Cindy and Mark get to go exploring while "Grandma" Ngaire and "Pappy" Ken have fun with the grandkids. Keep winning trivia!

If you get a chance, say hello to our good friends, Mike and Kathy McCarthy. I believe they are in cabin 780 or 781.
They are wonderful people that I am sure you would like to know.

Hi Smiling Jack:
Just wanted to let you know I can not really contact passengers onboard who are not my clients. This is not ethically appropriate, even when the motive is perfectly innocent.
Thought it best to let you know that than just not do as you requested.
Andi: People debark Milford and then do an overland trip with an overnight stay in Queenstown while the ship sails around the bottom of N.Z. Then the passengers rejoin the ship in Dunedin. These types of overland extensions are done a lot on the world cruise.
