ROTFL = Rolling On The Floor Laughing

To have someone you love & trust take care of your furry friends while you go on such a long cruise is truly wonderful!

Our daughter has taken care of Maggie in the past for us when we went away, but those times were always under 2 weeks. Yours is so much more!

BTW: To All, my refering to my pride & joy as the "heir", not heiress, is an example of what Arleen referred to as my "strange sense of humor".
My little baby girl, which she will always be until death, will clearly be heir to all we own. I fear, however, that her biggest task will be to convey us to potter's field rather than spend any imagined riches. & therein lies the small joke.
(of course, there is a stapler that I have seen her have her eye on.....)

As I type this again...Shadow just walked over me and erased my original message.

Doug, you crack me up! As an only child, I'll always be daddy's little girl and I treasure that. I'm sure the heir feels the same way.

PS: Will Maggie's picture be ready to be posted soon?

Amanda:

We missed you & good old "what's his name" on Saturday night.

As far as pics of the Amazing Miss Maggie, well, you will just have to ask SWMBO.
We are a dual PC family. She: Windows. Me: Mac
She has all the cables, etc. AND the actual camera.
As soon as we can get the pics into ANY format that I can upload, we will.

PS: With my misplacing my glasses & some other stuff, we were running late (& that was BEFORE we hit the NYC traffic) on Saturday. So, wouldn't you know, we even forgot to bring the camera to show Maggie to Gil & Arleen.

Soon, I promise

We were even worse when we met you, Doug. We HAD a camera and were so busy talking that we never got a picture taken with you.

Maggie update....She's back to eating DOG food and is eating like a horse. If I didn't know she was a very sick girl, I'd never know she was so ill. It has been a wonderful trip home with Leigh, Doug and MAGS. I'm back to Basel on Tuesday. Thank goodness, Doug will join me at the end of the week.

Arleen: YES! we had a great time w/ you & ol' what's his name. We *will* do it again.

Marcie: Maggie is so full of lessons. You are so right. I guess the biggest one is to know that someone loves you and never wants you to give up against whatever it is that you are facing. Everyone has someone who fits that bill (even if they don't know it!). Maggie has us!

Masaki: Well, we have some nice photos of Maggie. sadly, they remain locked in SWMBO's camera. Soon, or at least sometime before the first thaw (like that means something to you! - ROTFLMAO!), we will get them up on the web.

You would think that with all the computers we have (3 at last count), we could pull of this simple task. You would think... alas, my kingdom for the right cable... which should give you some idea what my kingdom is valued at in today's market.

Another northeaster to agree with you all. Today was one of those days when you wonder why you live here. The wind in Philly was brutal tonight.

Definitely looking forward to Maggie's pics. Dinner sounded very nice, but the DESSERTS sounded amazing. My motto being, of course, Life is uncertain.... eat dessert first. :)

Well, I didn't find today too cold at all here north of NYC. Winter, sure... but not as awful as it could be.
As I type this, however, the temp is dropping into the mid- 30s... that means, of course, that over night it will drop even lower. Now we are talking COLD!

But being the rocket scientist that I am, I shall be leaving to spend the holidays in Switzerland in a few days. Should be hot & sunny there, No?

Kathy: Yes, the meal was fantastic. The desserts, however, were beyond the beyond. They do such an amazing job with them that it is tragic that I am one of those who could not care less about dessert.
Clearly, I am an army of one!

Must stop here. Maggie is at the door of my office staring at me. That can mean only one of 2 things (or both): Time to go out or Time to eat.

No, it's to celebrate our last time together in Europe for a while.

I am packing up during January and will be home by the month's end.

This weekend, we are going to Prague for 3 days. For Christmas, we will be in Paris..

Victoria Palace:
Arrival : 23 December 04
Departure : 26 December 04 (3 nights)
1 Deluxe room at 190 euros per night (Breakfast, taxes and service are included.)

Please find below some options for Christmas day :
- Museums : Jacquemart André, Luxembourg, Natural History museum, Pompidou center (modern art).
- Monuments : Eiffel tower
- Tour : city tour (famous monuments), River Seine cruise, Illuminations.
- Shows : Lido, Moulin Rouge
- Ice skating

For the restaurant we made reservation at Le Christine at 8 pm for 2 on December 25.
They offer a set menu at 60 euros, drinks not included.
Menu :
Duet of Duck Foie gras
Small round of Monkfish with scallops and vegetables
Farm quail stuffed with mushrooms, mashed potatoes
Famous french dessert of Christmas, red fruit sauce

Now, I'm trying to arrange Berlin for New Year's Eve.

Pam, I know. Doug loves his MAC. I just left all the cables in Switzerland and the MAC is in the US!!

Doug is now here all safe and sound. Tomorrow, we leave for Prague. We're staying right in the center at the Palace Praha Hotel.

Next week, in Paris, we're staying at the Victoria Palace (see a trend here?). I've stayed there twice before and really believe it's the best value in Paris in a 4 star hotel with the room lovely and the service very good.

I got us reservations in Berlin for New Years weekend. We're staying at the Radisson SAS for 2 nights at $126 Eu and the Ritz for 1 night for $215. Couldn't get accommodations for all three nights. The Radisson is next to the museums and the Ritz in Potzdammerplatz near a lot of the historical sites and walking distance to the Brandenberg Gate. Both are in East Berlin.

This should be an interesting way to end our adventures in Europe. During the week, we will just toot around Basel area and relax at home.

I was in BErlin while they were in a hotel building boom. My primary memory is all the graffiti on the Berlin Wall - what was left of it (Quite a lot). I remember all the construction near the Brandenburg gate. So you know - WE MUST SEE PICTURES!

Have a great time - Happy Holidays!

The only part of the wall still standing is near checkpoint Charlie...about 400 feet of wall. There are bricks in the pavement which mark where the wall used to stand.

Much of Berlin is still under construction...especially East Berlin. Everything is now built around the Gate. It is Potsdammerplatz which is now under construction.

We will. Tonight we had a Fondue Chinoise which is veal on a stick sauteed in a pot of wine, then matched with dipping sauces for an XMAS celebration (company related). Spent a number of hours discussing cultural differences and getting recipes for chocolate rice. Doug slept most of today, so is wide awake at 12:30am...

Weather warmish, but drizzly.

Chocolate rice? Like a rice pudding? Sounds yummy, will you share?

Unfortunately, my daughter is at home as she didn't want to travel alone with Mom and Dad. I wish she would have come. It spoils the time not having her with us.

I will try to get the Chocolate rice recipe...you mix milk and real chocolate (not powder) and stir it into the rice. When ready put in a large dish and chill for 2 days. Before serving, shave chocolate over the top.

Arrived in Prague...it's about 32 degrees here, but clear. We received a bottle of wine and a plate of truffles in the room upon arrival. Tonight we ate at the hotel...tres elegant.

Doug had Roasted Scallops with a balsamic sauce and Magret of Duck, with an oyster mushroom sauce and I had Boullabaise and Duck Confit.

Tomorrow, we have a 4 hour private tour in the morning and will visit the castle in the pm.

Marcie, Food at fine restaurants is about the same as NY. Food at CZ restaurants are a good deal. Hotels are about $200 per night and up for a 4-5 star.

Today, we took a private 3 hour tour of the city. The architecture here is truly beautiful. This afternoon, we just wandered around and had a wonderful lunch of roasted duck and pork ribs. Tonight, we ate at the Belleview Restaurant overlooking the castle. Doug had red fish and I had pumpkin ravioli with a mushroom sauce and LAMB CHOPS with a sage and truffle sauce. I had apple sorbet in a ginger soup for dessert.

Tomorrow, we're heading for the castle in the am and will take a tour of the Jewish sector in the pm before leaving for Basel.

We leave on Wednesday for Paris. I am so excited. We are meeting my father's cousins at their home in Paris. I found them on ancestry.com on the internet and we have been corresponding. My great grandfather and grandmother were 2nd cousins and my cousin (5th on one side and 6th on another) is a genealogist and has input the family tree back to 1710. This should be very exciting.

Doug has arrived home safe and sound and I am lonely here in Switzerland. He reports that he picked up Maggie at the kennel and she looks like she has put on weight and is doing well.

I can't tell you how scared I was that something would go amiss over the 3 weeks she was in the kennel. When we took our last cruises, my daughter stayed with her and she also was under the watchful eye of the vet's kennel.

2005 started off very well as our Maggie is still with us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
