Kathy, it feels great!!!
How is everybody else doing this week? Looks like it is going to be a good week here. Snuck a peak at the scale and did some measuring and the clothes are getting even looser! This losing weight can get expensive! LOL

Yes, Don, it does get pricey to look good - but it sure is worth it. I just came from a wedding where a bunch of my kindergarten/grade school friends were that hadn't seen me for a bit.
Do you know what felt good? Not eating everything on my plate, stopping after three bites of the cake and one glass of champagne and no bread or potatoes - even skipped the appetizers.

Good job Kathy! I find it even harder at social events like that! It is all about choices! This week we have our annual meeting and I am going to choose ahead of time to have about 8 oz of wine at the cocktail party afterwards and any low carb appetizer options they may have.
I am hoping to break through one of those 10 lb. markers tomorrow. I was within a 1/2 pound when I peeked yesterday!

Love those marker points. Mine are just a pound at a time. I could hit one before I leave tomorrow. My goal is to weigh the same when I get back. If this isn't motivation, I don't know what is, but, for the cruise, I am not having dessert. I brought some fat free, sugar free stuff with me.

That's right, you are going on HAL tomorrow for that mini-cruise up the coast! Y'all have a fabulous time on the cruise and visiting with Fred and Pat! We want to hear all about it!

After losing less than a pound the week before, I lost a whopping 5 lbs last week and another 1/2 inch in my waist!
It never ceases to amaze me how your weight can fluctuate so much. The only thing that changed this week, was ADDING 5 more carbs per day to my diet!!! I even had wine on at least three of the nights! Calories stayed the same and the level of exercise also stayed the same.
My weight loss is supposed to be slowing down, not speeding up! No, I'm not complaining! It is just weird. Calories I'm doing fine on, keeping it between 1800 and 2000 per day. Net carbs are now up to 35 per day and are running about 10 to 15% of my calories. I know I need to up the protein just a little. It has been running a little low at 27-28% of my total caloric intake and needs to be up around 30%, which means getting in about 135 to 150 grams per day, while keeping the fat grams in check. Looks like more chicken and fish is in order!

YAY DON! :ch: :ch: i love hearing that you've had a good week.
I lost a few last week too. Getting onboard today 1 lb away from a zero on the end number of the scale. Maybe I will exercise enough to get down a bit more...I would like to be down 10 more lbs before we leave for Istanbul. If I behave this week, I know it's attainable.

Kathy, congratulations to you! Just go, have a good time, relax, and enjoy. There is still time when you get back and if you make your goal, great. If not, no big deal. Afterall, you will get plenty of exercise on that trip anyways!
I too have a goal of what I want to get down to by the time we get onboard CROSS. It would be nice if I make it, but my real goal is to not only get it off, but to keep it off. So, if I make it fine, and if not, I will still get there eventually. Right now my big concern is that it is coming off too quickly! In order to really be successful and keep it off, slow and steady is definately better. I will need to go and re-read this post when I hit my next plateau!!! LOL

And Don, we're here for each other to remind us of that slow and steady progress.
Sue, there is a carboholic program based on the principles of AA. It's called HOW - and it's a part of Overeaters Anonymous. One of my good friends does that and he lost 80 lbs this year. No Sugar and No Flour allowed.
Well, I am off to the land of temptation aka HAL's Amsterdam...

I am taking it slow and steady, learning which foods give me the most energy, which ones trigger my appetite and to avoid, and which ones help me burn the most fat. I even think that I can eventually survive the fabulous cuisine on a Regent or Silversea cruise without going completely overboard!!! LOL

I'm another carboholic, so don't feel bad. I gave up sugar and refined carbs long ago, but I still need complex carbs, including grains.
I have a young friend who is in OA, and has lost 75 pounds. She's in her twenties--part of the deal is no dating for a year!! Wonder what they do if you're married. It's worked for her, who can say?

Kathy, hope you're having a great time with Pat and Fred! Ask him if he has a kitchen gadget called a foamer. We went to a fancy resto last night, and almost every course had something that had been "foamed". Great way to stretch out the calories and make your food interesting. If Fred doesn't have one, it sounds just up his alley!

I will have to ask..I doubt there is a kitchen gadget that Fred doesn't have. We were viewing photos from Tahiti and WAVE and had a toast to you and David.
Trying to figure out how Pasta Carbonara fits into my light carb lifestyle.

I have been lurking but not absent from posting for awhile. You guys are doing such a great job! What role models! Kathy-- you have to enjoy life, and that means Fred and Pat's cuisine! I have been embroiled in a bunch of familial helping stuff lately. That adrenaline has been helping alot, but I would trade it for slow and steady progress.

Thanks Ray and Diane! I was just thinking Diane, it is much better to be a ROLE model than a ROLL model! LOL Kathy, sounds like you're having a good time. Tell Fred he needs to whip up a batch of low carb Creme Brulee for you!!! ;) Wendy, I am also a big time carboholic. Is it here, I'm supposed to say, My name is Don and I am a Carboholic? LOL It is kind of like a junkie or alcoholic kicking an addiction. Unfortunately you still have to eat though, so I too had to learn a whole new way of eating, but I am really enjoying it. No refined sugars, no refined flour, and no highly glycemic veggies. However, I can still have my wine in moderation (thank goodness ), and I just have to watch and have control over my carb intake. However, I have found that just about anything that you can fix, you can make low carb with some adjusting. Yes Kathy, even Pasta Carbonara! LOL Like the fried chicken that we had Friday night. We just used soy flour instead of white flour! Just a little success story to share. Last night I went to our local department store in order to pick up a shirt that I need for our annual meeting this week, since my current shirts (with all the weight loss) now look more like tents rather than shirts! LOL So, I went to the big and tall department as I have for the past couple of decades, but now I found that I had to go to the regular mens section in order to find anything to fit. Yippee, I am no longer in the PLUS sizes!!! I'm finally just a regular guy!!!

I told Andrea when I saw her in FLL that she was a "shadow of her former self!" All that work has paid off for her, and as well and for Don, and I know it was not easy. Taking off a few pounds after a cruise is nothing compared to what these guys are doing!

Thank you all so much!!
This is really the first time I've kept at it - usually I'll lose 20-30 lbs and then go back to my old habits. Not this time - I've done what the experts recommend and made it a lifestyle change - especially when it comes to exercise. For me, it's what really makes the difference.
Don, I was lucky because one of my coworkers recently lost 30 lbs, and when she started she was my current size, so she just gave me a bunch of really nice summer clothes. At least I'll have a few things to wear, because replacing an entire wardrobe is pretty expensive!

Hi All, I have not been doing so well diet-wise and I guess avoiding this board is part of my avoidance solution! Bon Voyage to you Kathy! Bravo, Don! I will wait till I am back "in the saddle" before I post my daily doings. I got a little discouraged for awhile but hopefully ready to get back to it. ------------- Helen
