I've just discovered a new air fare pricing site called ITA Software.

http://itasoftware.com/

Has anyone used this before?

Denise, that is the exact website I was looking for in my earlier "website that shows airline flight problems?" post!! Too bad I already booked my MUSH air, I think this website is very handy!

Denise - thanks for the tip! I've also used www.mobissimo.com and find it better than some of the others, both for air and hotel. Cheers, Anne

Karen...I'm sorry the ITA software site didn't pop into my head! I usually try it first, especially when I have no idea what flights work best for my destination.

Just a comment about this site....

I've been tracking prices for a Newark- SJ flight I need to book in March so I just used the ITA site. The info it gave me as to which fligts are cheaper for my dates was wrong. Don't know if it's an aberration, but the info was wrong by more than $100.

It looks like a very informative and useful site to me. One of the features I really like are the notations of which connections are tight and which layovers are long ones.

I am curious as to why the fares were incorrect pertaining to your flights, Maria. Has the site continually been in error when you check on these flights?

Anne, I have used Mobissimo, too, and found it a very good tool, as well. Thanks!

I use ITA all the time - it's great for research regarding who flies where, routing, search by time, duration etc. I also use it to see if anybody has business class deals going on. It is basically the same "engine" that otbitz uses, but much faster and easier for just looking.

Denise,

I just used the ITA site for the first time this morning( after seeing your post). It showed the best fare to be an AA fare of $307 and had the Continental fare at $402. This caught my eye as Continental is my preferred airline and I have been checking their website everyday and they had been showing consistently fares in the $300's

Right after seeing this in ITA I went to the Continental website and they are offering a fare of $288! I have no clue where the Continental $402 fare shown by ITA comes from as none of the combinations offered by Continental yields that fare.

I don't know if this is the case with ITA , but in my experience sites like Travelocity and Expedia steers you to certain airlines and not necessarily the best deals.

It's really a puzzlement, Maria. I agree 100% that sites such as Travelocity and Expedia steer you to "preferred" carriers and in numerous instances, not the best fares available. Many people assume that you get the best deals on such sites. I've found that by doing proper research and investigating, you can get better deals elsewhere. That includes going to the carrier, directly, rather than a "middleman." You just have to search and consider all options.
