Does anyone know a good private guide in Barcelona and/or a good car service to use from the airport? Thanks! Adelle

Claudia, did you use them for a guided tour or just transportation? I'm interested in a guided tour so I'd want more than just a driver. Thanks. Tom.

Have used them for both Tom. Now always use them for transfers. Having been to Barcelona many times, now we can do most of it on our own.

P.S.S. If you are only interested in seeing "the sites" of city, Barcelona, there is a hop on hop off bus you can take from many spots around Las Ramblas. Jump on and off everywhere at your leisure .

Thanks so much Claudia. There will be four of us and it's our first time in Barcelona so I think a guided tour would work best. I just want to make sure I get someone who speaks good English. Tom.

Tom,
We were there for the first time in April with a corporate group. It was one of the BEST "corporate" trips we have been on. They had arranged tours everyday.
We loved Montserrat. I highly recommend going there for a couple of hours on a nice day. The views are stunning and the village and abbey are right out of a movie set. There is a mass at 11:00 that is open to the public so if you have a chance, step in for awhile to admire the beauty of the abbey and hear the monks singing on the altar.
Also, at 1:00, the boys choir sings for 10 minutes. Try to get there for that.
We also took a Gaudi tour - absolutely awesome. We missed some of the art tours but heard very good things about them from other people. There were so many things to see!
Have fun!

Tom, There is a gal named Debbie who gives "guided" tours. We never used her, but she is highly recommended . If you are looking for a more personal type of tour then you might email her too. ( P.S. she is an American ). This is an email I saved in my Barcelona file . Hope the email is still correct -if not let me know and can get it. ________________________________________________ Barcelona Spain Tours We had a great private tour guide in Barcelona. She is an American woman named Debbie who has lived there for some time, and she helped make our experience in Barcelona a great one. Debbie knows much about the history, culture and people of Barcelona and she was also a lot of fun to be with. We saw in one day with her what would have taken us 3 days to see on our own. She was also helpful with recommendations for good restaurants and stores with the best deals. For lunch, she took us to a wonderful tapas bar. She also gives tours to sights outside of the city, such as Montserrat and other places. You can contact Debbie at debiness@aol.com.

Thanks Ginny and Claudia. I did find a guide named Jordi that Ngaire recommended. His English seems to be good and he knows the city. I'm looking forward to doing the Gaudi tour. However, since we are in Barcelona only until 3pm I doubt there would be time to see Montserrat.
By the way, does anyone know about guides for Bordeaux, Lisbon or Cadiz? Thanks. Tom.

And for Cadiz.. if that is a port for only a day ( then ) you can get off ship and walk for about 5 minutes ( or grab taxi) and go into the BEST shopping village of all of Spain. shoes, purses ( leather jackets).. all fabulous designer stuff so wonderful. If you want to grab taxi ( get up early- they are there at the dock, and they have a blackboard ( I loved that) with prices posted for all their tours.. we had set up a driver to pick us up ( and of 30 + cruises was the only guy who never showed in time( although he did show up a few hours late - after we grabbed taxi - after 1 hour wait -and left a note for us that he had been caught in traffic ( hello?.. so a tip.. DO NOT PAY ANYONE in advance of your trip!).. first and last time I gave a "guide/ driver" a deposit.. another story.. anyways.. Cadiz is so cute you certainly can do it on your own.. if you grab a taxi at the dock for about 15 Euro they will drive you to the village and give a quickie tour - not neccesary unless you can't walk a few blocks).. if you have the whole day to go to Seville, wake up VERY early and ask for FERNADo.. he is a young man - speaks perfect English a doll ( probably if you ask for him they will all be Fernando .. but .. in any event a taxi will hold 4 comfortably , and take you to all the sights of Seville.. ( on your own..they park right in the center and that is easy.. if you like fabulous lunch try LA Raza ..the most fabulous seafood for lunch.. ;_) getting hungry and for Lisbon http://www.sunnytours-pt.com/ have fun Tom..

:pass: You will love Bordeaux! I do hope that you will get to have Alain as your guide and driver.. but Jean Denis will take care of you in any event. They are both super with email and setting up to make it exactly the tour you want. By the way.. Jean- Denis' is the main guy for Bordeaux tourism.. they are both very nice men!

Claudia - as usual, I agree you are a wealth of information!! I am checking out Debbie for a private tour in Barcelona, we are on the same cruise with Tom above, and we signed up for a ship tour, but if we can work something out with Debbie, will cancel that, as working with her sounds more personal and fun.

Well, mark Debbie off the list, she is no longer living and giving tours in Barcelona. She just e-mailed me.

Tom, Do you have the contact information for Jordi in Barcelona. When is your cruise? We will be in Barcelona October 5 - 8. I am contacting a few agencies, including the company recommended by Claudia and have asked the hotel for a recommendation also. Thanks, Adelle

HELP!!! Barcelona Taxi is booked the day we need them. Debbie is no longer guiding. Does anyone have any other recommendations for barcelona private guides? I checked with the hotel but their guides are much more expensive. Has anyone heard of barcelona tour guides? They are more expensive also but not quite as expensive as the hotel. Any idea where to go to check on guide ratings?
Thanks, Adelle

Hi Adelle. Sorry it took so long for me to get you the information. I had not checked the thread in quite a while. The Barcelona guide's name is Jordi Borrellas and his email is jborellas@worldonline.es or toti27@menta.net. I would use both. Good luck. Tom.
